Pick of the week can be a movie, new or old, a book, a poem, a song, an article...really anything related to the arts that might entertain us or light a fire in our bellies.
This week’s pick is a gritty independent Irish film called Once. It’s about two people who find each other through music. The budget was $150,000 which is paltry even for an indie movie, but what it lacks in special effects and Hollywood bluster it more than makes up for with sincerity and honesty and patience…it’s scrappy and understated and to be honest for me, it reawakened my passion for filmmaking and writing.
Isn’t life grand when it presents these unexpected little pearls that remind us who we are and who we want to be?
One of the songs from the soundtrack is called Falling Slowly and it has been nominated for an Oscar for best original song. Go, little film, go.
A gem of a movie. This 88 minute flick will charm your pants off.
