Light at the end of the tunnel…a holistic approach to treating depression.
About one in five people experience depression in their lifetime and contrary to what our televisions tell us, medication is only one treatment option of many.
Dr. Richard O’Connor discusses that for many patients depression becomes a way of life--a way of doing life. These depressive habits and ways of thinking physically rewire the brain sending patients down a frustrating path of despair. He describes how people suffering from depression often learn to live with it (while losing joy and meaning in their lives), eventually believing it is part of who they are.
Dr. O’Connor gives insight into options available to beat depression, including how to "undo" depressive thoughts, situations and habits. And yes, he also discusses medication and psychotherapy and the importance of treating the whole individual.
If you or anyone you know suffers from depression, this powerful interview could save a life. Listen to the interview:
