Bad childhood? Making good with your bygones...
For those of us who are struggling with our pasts or lamenting over a less-than-perfect childhood, here is a woman who has used adversity as a means to living her best, most creative life.
Kathleen interviews the one and only Maya Angelou, the iconic American writer whose long and illustrious career has produced several volumes of poetry and autobiographies, including the highly acclaimed I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings—a groundbreaking, searingly honest look into Angelou’s childhood and early adulthood.
Ms. Angelou talks about her latest book, Letter to My Daughter, which is dedicated to the daughter she never had and all of the wonderful women she has adopted along the way (including Ms. Oprah Winfrey). She shares the role that faith has had in her life, gives insight into her writing process, and tells us how the little girl from Stamps, Arkansas grew up to be an inspiration for generations of men and women alike.
Listen in and you'll hear why Kathleen got goose bumps, tears, and belly laughs all in one interview.
Maya Angelou is an accomplished poet, an award-winning and best-selling author, a journalist, an activist, a performer, a dancer, an actress, a director, and a teacher. She is also a three-time Grammy Award winner for her autobiographical spoken-word recordings.
