News Shmews: Meet the woman behind the satire that really makes us think
Have you wondered why the news has become, well, less newsworthy? Why does Britney get more coverage than healthcare? Where are the real issues?
Kathleen speaks with Lizz Winstead, a woman who has been taking on the media for years—first as co-creator of the satirical and immensely funny The Daily Show and later as a co-founder of Air America Radio. Lizz chats about her latest project—Shoot the Messenger—a live online show that targets yet another genre of programming disguised as news: the ever-popular morning show. She shares insight into her creative process, her biggest challenges, and even dishes on some of the more outrageous content seen on the show to date.
Lizz Winstead has emerged as a critically acclaimed political writer and producer. She was both a co-creator and head writer of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show and co-creator of Air America Radio. She is currently working on her new show, Shoot the Messenger, which can be seen online at www.shootthemessenger.com.
