I’m trying to live by this…

August 2nd, 2010

And trying to teach it to my kids too.

“Every choice you make creates your world. Every purchase you make rewards either the good or the bad. Every time you choose cheap, chemical food over organic, you are rewarding the bad. You vote with every dollar you spend. Companies and governments count every purchase you make and make almost every decision based on your purchases. If you buy a Coke, we make more Coke. If you buy cheap meat, we produce more cheap meat. If you keep buying big cars and continue to complain loudly about the price of gas, your friends and family will be sent overseas to fight for cheaper oil in a war we can never win. There is no “they”—businesses are guided by all of us.”

~An excerpt from Organic Manifesto by Maria Rodale

Organic Manifesto builds one of the best cases for organic food (and responsible consumerism) that I’ve read. If the above text speaks to you, here’s my interview with author, Maria Rodale:

  1. Dear Kathleen, First, thank you for your dedication to the work you are doing. The seeds it is planting are definitely germinating…. :)

In regards to your title of this post “I’m trying to live by this”, and on the heels of your interview with Don Miguel Ruiz, it may be interesting to consider the word “try”. It is one of those words that often implies non-action. That is why Ruiz speaks so much to “DO your best”… versus “try your best”. For example, if you “try to jump”, you actually aren’t jumping… Just a thought. Again, thank you and I appreciate your candor and willingness to be seen. Keep getting naked. :) Without truth, we got nothin’. love, Britt in Portland, Oregon

  2. Sandra says:

Thank you for bringing awareness to the people in this world.
