Kathleen’s Pick of the Week is a book called The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Normally we’re a little cynical about self-help books around here, but this one made the cut.
The first agreement in particular really hits a nerve: “Be impeccable with the word.” This refers not only to the words that come out of our mouths, but the words that we think in our head. So next time your voice or thoughts start creeping over to the dark side, take a moment to regroup…and strive to be impeccable:
- Speak with integrity.
- Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or gossip about others.
- Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
Welcome to a brighter day.

I loved this book so much, I bought several copies and shared them with family and friends. I first read it several years ago and my husband and I still talk about the agreements when situations arise. It has made a difference in our lives.

+1
I bought the CD version of the book after skimming a friends paperback copy. WOW!! What great advice!! Loaned it to my girlfriend (ex now) who was struggling with ending a relationship with an emotionally abusive ex-brofreind. Never got the program back:-( However, I download it to my Iphone and listen to it at the best time to hold it in your subconscious…that’s right, the time before you go to sleep and when you wake-up. I have listened to hours of self-help tapes and CD’s but this program is my favorite!!
