Raise your glass! A look behind organic wine.
Before organic was even cool, Frey Vineyards was producing high quality wines with no pesticides, no herbicides, and no sulfites (cheers to that).
Katrina Frey, founder of Frey Vineyards, gives Kathleen an inside look at sustainable wine production and demystifies what those “organic” and “biodynamic” buzzwords really mean. (Hint: Biodynamic farming practices would bring a smile to Michael Pollan’s face).
And ever get a headache from drinking wine? Katrina also explains why Frey continues to make sulfite-free wine that’s both easy on the environment and easy on our health. Yes, that means wine without the headaches.
Founded in 1980, Frey was the first organic winery in the United States, and to this day they still practice the principles of organic, sustainable, biodynamic agriculture with no synthetic chemicals or soil depletion.
Katrina Frey founded the pioneering organic and biodynamic Frey winery with her husband and brother-in-law. Since then she has worn many hats, including grape picker, wine bottler and office manager. The winery has grown from producing 2,000 cases to 90,000 cases per year of organic and Biodynamic non-sulfited wines.
